South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached Saturday over his short-lived martial law decree, with twelve lawmakers from his own party joining the opposition to pass the motion in the National Assembly.
On December 14, 2024, South Korea's National Assembly voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol, marking a historic moment as he becomes the second president in the country's history to face such action. The vote, which passed with 180 votes in favor, 112 against, and 4 abstentions, was primarily driven by allegations of corruption, abuse of power, and mishandling of the economy.
