Accept Sukhbir's resignation, reorganise Akali Dal in 6 months: Sikh clergy
- Pronounce 'tankhah' on Sukhbir, other Sikh leaders who served as ministers in the Akali cabinet, strip ex-CM Parkash Singh Badal of 'Fakhre-e-Qaum' title
The Sikh clergy has advised the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to accept the resignation of its president, Sukhbir Singh Badal, and to reorganize the party within six months. This directive comes in response to the party's poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where it failed to secure any seats. The Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Raghbir Singh, emphasized the need for the SAD to reconnect with the Sikh community and address their concerns, particularly regarding the 2015 sacrilege incidents. The clergy also suggested that the party should hold elections for its leadership positions and ensure that the new leadership reflects the sentiments of the Sikh community. This call for change is seen as an attempt to restore the party's credibility and influence among its traditional voter base.
