The incident involved a text message sent to a journalist, which was intended for a colleague, revealing internal party discussions about transport policy. Haigh acknowledged the error, stating it was an accidental breach of confidentiality. She apologized for the oversight and resigned to take responsibility for her actions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining trust and security within political communications. The Labour Party has since accepted her resignation, and a replacement for her role is expected to be announced soon.
