'Politics is about persistence': Nebraska lawmakers push for permanent E15

According to Nebraska Corn Growers, 99% of corn grown in the state is for ethanol and livestock feed.
Nebraska lawmakers are advocating for the permanent availability of E15 fuel, a blend containing 15% ethanol, following a successful temporary sales period in the summer of 2023. The push for permanent E15 sales is driven by the fuel's lower cost and reduced emissions compared to traditional gasoline, as well as its support for the local economy through the state's significant corn production used in ethanol production. Senators such as Pete Ricketts and Deb Fischer, along with Governor Jim Pillen, are urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to allow year-round E15 sales, highlighting the benefits to consumers and the environment. The temporary waiver that allowed E15 sales during the summer months is set to expire, prompting the call for a permanent solution.
