  • A group of Republican and Democratic U.S. senators is pushing President Donald Trump's administration to transfer more than $300 billion of seized Russian assets to help Ukraine. According to them, using the debt's interest to support Kyiv is not enough.

U.S. Senators, led by Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse and Republican Lindsey Graham, are urging the Trump administration and its allies to transfer over $300 billion in seized Russian assets to Ukraine to aid in its defense against Russia's invasion. This initiative, detailed in a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, aims to use these assets, which were frozen by Western nations following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and further actions, to support Ukraine's military and humanitarian needs. The senators argue that this move would not only help Ukraine but also serve as a deterrent against future aggressions by demonstrating the financial consequences of such actions. The proposal includes transferring these assets to a special fund managed by the U.S., U.K., Canada, Japan, and the EU, which would then allocate the funds for Ukraine's benefit.
