South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed claims made by former U.S. President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk regarding the persecution of white farmers in South Africa. Ramaphosa emphasized that South Africa has moved beyond the racial divisions of apartheid, stating that the country is now governed by a constitution that promotes equality and non-racialism. He refuted the notion of widespread farm attacks targeting white farmers as a form of persecution, clarifying that while crime affects all communities, there is no systematic targeting based on race. Ramaphosa's comments were in response to Trump's 2018 tweet and Musk's subsequent support, where they suggested that white farmers were being persecuted and that land expropriation without compensation was underway. Ramaphosa highlighted that the government's land reform policies are aimed at addressing historical injustices and are conducted within the legal framework, not through arbitrary seizures.
