Bengaluru: The Congress-led Karnataka government is once again mulling introducing a 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in civil contracts on lines with the reservation provided to the Scheduled Caste,
The Karnataka government is contemplating a 4% reservation for Muslims in civil contracts, a move that has sparked controversy and criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP has labeled this proposal as "the peak of appeasement politics," arguing that it promotes division based on religion rather than merit. This decision comes in the wake of the government's recent decision to scrap the 4% reservation for Muslims in educational institutions and jobs, redistributing it among other communities like Vokkaligas and Lingayats. The BJP's opposition stems from their belief that such reservations could lead to social fragmentation and are against the principles of equality and secularism enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
