What is the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE?

President Trump said the entity would focus on cutting government waste and slashing federal regulations, and he put tech billionaire and adviser Elon Musk in charge.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is a newly established agency in California aimed at enhancing the efficiency of state government operations. Created by Governor Gavin Newsom, DOGE focuses on streamlining processes, reducing bureaucratic red tape, and improving service delivery to the public. The department will employ data analytics, technology, and innovative management practices to identify inefficiencies and implement solutions. It will also work on inter-agency collaboration to eliminate duplication of efforts and foster a culture of continuous improvement. The initiative has been met with both support for its potential to save taxpayer money and criticism regarding the costs of setting up a new bureaucratic entity.
