Vietnam government plans to reduce 5 ministries in streamlining effort
- The Vietnamese government plans to reduce five ministries and the National Assembly will cut four committees as part of a major administrative overhaul, according to a Communist Party's top official.
The Vietnamese government is planning to reduce the number of ministries from 22 to 17 as part of a broader administrative reform and streamlining effort. This initiative, led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, aims to enhance efficiency, reduce bureaucratic overlap, and improve governance. The proposed changes include merging the Ministry of Home Affairs with the Ministry of Public Security, combining the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and integrating the Ministry of Industry and Trade with the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Additionally, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Construction might be consolidated. This restructuring is part of a larger plan to modernize Vietnam's administrative framework, which also involves reducing the number of government agencies and enhancing digital transformation in public services. The government has set a deadline for these reforms to be completed by 2026, with the goal of creating a more agile and responsive government structure.
