Former Rep. Lee Zeldin made nearly $200,000 from paid speeches and op-eds in recent years. Some of those op-eds were on climate-related topics.

Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Mandy Gunasekara, was paid over $30,000 by the Functional Government Initiative (FGI), a conservative think tank, to write op-eds and articles that criticized climate policies and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing. These writings, which appeared in various outlets including Fox News and The Hill, argued against the Biden administration's climate initiatives, claiming they would harm the economy and increase energy costs. Gunasekara's work also targeted ESG investing, labeling it as a "woke" investment strategy that could lead to financial losses. Her financial ties to FGI were not disclosed in her op-eds, raising concerns about transparency and potential conflicts of interest as she potentially takes on a significant role in shaping U.S. environmental policy.
