SANDF disputes claims of neglect over Pretoria CBD flats
- SANDF denies claims that the City of Tshwane repeatedly complained about the organisation's alleged neglect of a deteriorating block of flats in Pretoria CBD.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has refuted allegations of neglect concerning the dilapidated state of flats in Pretoria CBD, which were previously used to house military personnel. The SANDF, through its spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini, emphasized that the responsibility for the maintenance of these properties lies with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI), not the SANDF. Dlamini clarified that while the SANDF had raised concerns about the condition of the flats, the DPWI has been slow in addressing these issues. The flats, now largely vacant, have become a point of contention due to their poor condition, with reports highlighting issues like broken windows, leaking roofs, and general disrepair. The SANDF has been attempting to relocate its members to better accommodations, but the process has been hindered by the lack of maintenance from the DPWI.
