The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, Darren J. LaMarca, has resigned from his position effective immediately, as announced by the Department of Justice. LaMarca, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump in 2017, served for over six years. His resignation was confirmed by a DOJ spokesperson, and the reasons for his departure were not disclosed in the announcement. LaMarca's tenure saw him handling significant cases, including those related to public corruption, civil rights, and white-collar crime. The process to appoint a new U.S. Attorney for the district will now commence, with the position being filled on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is confirmed.
