  • The Plains Post Office at 119 Main Street will now be designated as the "Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office."

The Plains, Georgia post office has been officially renamed the "Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter Post Office" in honor of former President Jimmy Carter and his late wife, Rosalynn Carter. This renaming was enacted through a bill signed by President Joe Biden, recognizing the Carters' significant contributions to the community and the nation. The legislation was introduced by Georgia Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, and Representative Sanford Bishop. The ceremony for the renaming took place in Plains, attended by local residents and officials, celebrating the legacy of the Carters, who have been long-time residents of the town. Jimmy Carter, now 99, and Rosalynn, who passed away in November 2023, are remembered for their humanitarian work, with Jimmy Carter being the oldest living former U.S. president.
