The UK Parliament has voted against establishing a new national inquiry into grooming gangs, with a vote of 171 to 170. This decision came after Conservative MP Sarah Champion proposed the inquiry, arguing that previous investigations had not adequately addressed the issue of child sexual exploitation by grooming gangs. Despite the narrow defeat, the debate highlighted concerns over the effectiveness of current measures against grooming gangs, with some MPs expressing frustration over the government's handling of the issue. The government, however, insists that existing strategies and the ongoing work of the Home Office's Grooming Gangs Taskforce are sufficient to tackle the problem. Critics argue that without a comprehensive inquiry, systemic failures might continue, potentially endangering more children.
