  • The United States on Monday announced nearly $6 billion in additional military and budget assistance for Ukraine as President Joe Biden uses his final weeks in office to surge aid to Kyiv before President-elect Donald Trump takes power.

The U.S. has announced a significant aid package for Ukraine, totaling $5.9 billion, which includes both military and other forms of assistance. This package is part of a broader effort to support Ukraine against the backdrop of ongoing conflict with Russia. The aid encompasses $1 billion in weapons and equipment directly from U.S. stockpiles, with an additional $2 billion allocated for future military purchases through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. Furthermore, $1.7 billion is designated for humanitarian aid, and $1.2 billion will support energy infrastructure and other direct budget support to Ukraine. This announcement comes at a critical time as Ukraine faces intensified Russian attacks, particularly in the eastern regions, and aims to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities and civilian support systems.
