  • Yeovil MP Adam Dance said these changes undermine local democracy and ignore the requirements of communities in Yeovil and South Somerset.

Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh has criticized the government's new planning framework, particularly the National Policy Planning Framework (NPPF), for not adequately addressing the housing needs of rural areas like his constituency. He argues that the framework's focus on urban development and brownfield sites fails to consider the unique challenges faced by rural communities, such as the need for affordable housing and the preservation of local character. Fysh believes that the current policies could lead to the decline of rural towns and villages by not providing enough incentives for development where it is most needed. He has called for a more balanced approach that would encourage sustainable development in rural areas to prevent them from becoming "dormitory towns" for urban centers.
