Jim Leach, a former Republican congressman from Iowa known for his moderate views and advocacy for campaign finance reform, died at the age of 84. Leach served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years, from 1977 to 2007, representing Iowa's 2nd Congressional District. He was recognized for his efforts in promoting bipartisanship, notably through his work on the House Banking Committee where he pushed for reforms in campaign finance and banking regulations. After leaving Congress, Leach continued his public service as the chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities under President Barack Obama, a position he held from 2009 to 2013. His death was announced by his family, and he was remembered for his integrity, intellect, and commitment to public service.
