David Prosser, a significant figure in Wisconsin politics, passed away at the age of 79. He served as the Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1995 to 1996 and later as a Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice from 1998 until his retirement in 2016. His tenure on the Supreme Court was marked by controversy, including a physical altercation with fellow Justice Ann Walsh Bradley in 2011. Prosser was known for his conservative views and his role in pivotal decisions, such as upholding Governor Scott Walker's collective bargaining law in 2011. His career also included a stint as a deputy district attorney and a member of the state Assembly, where he was recognized for his legislative work. Governor Tony Evers and other political figures have acknowledged his contributions to the state, despite the contentious aspects of his judicial career.
