Special Counsel David Weiss has objected to a motion by Hunter Biden's legal team to dismiss tax charges against him, following a pardon by former President Donald Trump. The charges stem from Hunter Biden's failure to pay over $1.2 million in taxes from 2016 to 2019. Weiss argued in a court filing that the pardon does not apply to these charges because they were filed after Trump left office, and thus, the pardon does not cover the current legal actions. Additionally, Weiss emphasized that the pardon was intended for offenses committed before Trump's term, not for future or ongoing investigations. Hunter Biden's attorneys had claimed that the pardon should extend to these charges, arguing that the investigation was politically motivated. However, Weiss countered that the investigation was conducted independently and that the charges are legitimate, urging the court to proceed with the case.
