UN says Israel bombardment of Syria 'must stop'
- The UN special envoy for Syria called Tuesday on Israel to halt its military movements and bombardments in Syria, after a war monitor reported 300 air strikes since the fall of president Bashar al-Assad.
The United Nations has called for an immediate halt to Israel's airstrikes in Syria, which have escalated in frequency and intensity since the onset of the Syrian civil war in 2011. According to the UN, these attacks, which often target Iranian-backed militias and Syrian military positions, are not only violating Syrian sovereignty but also international law. The strikes have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. The UN's plea comes amidst rising tensions and concerns over the potential for further destabilization in the Middle East. The international body has urged all parties involved to seek peaceful resolutions and respect the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
