He gained fame and fortune through his hedge fund, Soros Fund Management, notably for betting against the British pound in 1992, earning him the nickname "the man who broke the Bank of England." Soros has since become known for his philanthropy, particularly through the Open Society Foundations, which supports democracy, human rights, and social justice worldwide. His critical remarks on the Modi government, especially regarding the Adani Group's stock manipulation allegations, have led to a backlash from Indian political figures, including accusations of him trying to undermine India's democracy.
