Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, commonly known as S.M. Krishna, was a prominent Indian politician who passed away at the age of 93 after a prolonged illness. He served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and was known for his significant contributions to the state's development. Krishna also held the position of External Affairs Minister of India from 2009 to 2012 under the UPA government. His political career was marked by his association with the Congress party, although he briefly joined the BJP in 2017. Krishna was celebrated for his administrative skills, his role in promoting IT in Karnataka, and his diplomatic efforts on the international stage.
