Devendra Fadnavis is New CM of Maharashtra; Check Education, Political Journey and Key Details
- Devendra Fadnavis, a key BJP leader, will be sworn in as Maharashtra's Chief Minister for the third time on December 5, 2024, following a decisive victory in the assembly elections. His leadership marks a significant moment in Maharashtra's political landscape.
Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on November 23, 2019, marking his second term in the position. This event followed a period of political uncertainty after the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections where no party secured a clear majority. Initially, Shiv Sena, which had an alliance with BJP, parted ways due to disagreements over power-sharing. However, after President's rule was imposed, BJP and Shiv Sena reconciled, leading to Fadnavis taking oath as CM with Ajit Pawar from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as his deputy. This unexpected alliance was short-lived as Ajit Pawar resigned shortly after, and Uddhav Thackeray from Shiv Sena was sworn in as CM with the support of NCP and Congress, forming the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
