In Bangladesh, senior editor Shafik Rehman has reported a significant decline in press freedom since the Awami League came to power in 2009, highlighting that numerous editors have been removed from their positions and some have been imprisoned. Rehman, who himself was jailed for 18 months on charges of conspiring against the government, pointed out that the current administration has been particularly harsh on media critical of its policies.
