  • The EFF has condemned the South African government for delays in repatriating 14 soldiers killed in the DRC, calling it a "callous" mishandling, while renewing its call for withdrawing our troops.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have criticized the South African government for the delays in repatriating the bodies of two South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on February 14, 2024. The EFF described the situation as "eight days of forlorn hope and agony," highlighting the distress caused to the families of the deceased soldiers, Captain Simon Mkhulu Bobe and Lance Corporal Irven Thabang Semono, due to the government's slow response. The party accused the government of being "callous" and "insensitive" in handling the repatriation, pointing out that the soldiers' bodies were still in the DRC, exacerbating the families' grief. The EFF also raised concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the circumstances of the soldiers' deaths and the overall mission in the DRC, urging for immediate action to bring the soldiers' remains back to South Africa.
