Tuscany becomes Italy's first region to approve assisted suicide for people with incurable illnesses

Tuscany has become the first region in Italy to approve a protocol allowing assisted suicide for individuals with incurable illnesses, following a landmark Constitutional Court ruling in 2019. This decision enables doctors to help patients who are kept alive by life-sustaining treatments and suffer from an irreversible pathology causing physical and psychological suffering, provided they are mentally competent to make such a decision.
