Centre to provide 90% fund for Rs-70,000 crore ERCP-PKC inter state project
- Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil reiterated that the Centre would provide 90 per cent funds of Rs 70,000-crore PKC ERCP mega project aimed at linking Parvati, Kali Sindh, and Chambal rivers for the development of canal network in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The Indian government has decided to fund 90% of the Rs 70,000 crore Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), which aims to address water scarcity in 13 districts of Rajasthan. This project, now recognized as a national project, will involve the construction of a network of dams, canals, and pipelines to transfer water from the Chambal River to regions like Alwar, Bharatpur, and Jaipur. The decision was made following discussions between Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil, with the project's funding and execution now under the purview of the central government. This initiative is expected to significantly boost water availability for drinking and irrigation in the region, thereby supporting agriculture and improving living conditions.
