Supreme Court declines appeal from Peter Navarro, the former Trump aide set to return to White House after prison term
- The Supreme Court has turned back an appeal from Peter Navarro, the former Trump White House official who is set to return in his second term after serving prison time on contempt of Congress charges.
The Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal from Peter Navarro, a former trade adviser to President Donald Trump, who was convicted of contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Navarro had sought to avoid prison while his appeal was pending, but the justices rejected his request without comment. He is set to begin a four-month prison sentence on March 19, 2024, and plans to return to the White House if Trump wins the 2024 presidential election. Navarro's legal team argued that he was acting under Trump's direction, claiming executive privilege, but this defense was not upheld in lower courts.
