The House is set to consider the National Defense Authorization Act this week in an attempt to push through one of Congress's highest priority bills before it expires later this month and lawmakers leave town until Jan.

The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote on an $895 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) following a bipartisan agreement between House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democrats. This year's NDAA, which funds the Department of Defense, includes a 5.2% pay raise for troops, a measure to extend the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative through 2026, and provisions to enhance military capabilities against threats from China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. The bill also addresses issues like diversity, equity, and inclusion in the military, with some controversial amendments being dropped to secure Democratic support. The agreement aims to ensure the bill's passage in the House, with expectations that it will also pass in the Senate, where it has historically enjoyed strong bipartisan support.
