Adem Somyurek, a former Victorian Labor MP who was expelled from the party in 2022 amid allegations of branch stacking, has announced his intention to run as an independent in the upcoming state election. In a scathing critique of his former party, Somyurek labeled Labor as "cowardly" for not addressing key issues like the cost of living and infrastructure development. He criticized the current government for lacking vision and for what he perceives as mismanagement, particularly in the wake of the Commonwealth Games cancellation. Somyurek aims to represent the South-Eastern Metropolitan Region, promising to focus on community needs and to challenge the major parties' dominance by offering a genuine alternative voice in parliament.
