Sheinbaum responds to Trump claim that she pledged to "stop migration" and close the border
- President Sheinbaum rejected Trump's claim that she agreed on Wednesday to stop migration to the US and "effectively" close the border.
In response to former U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that he could stop migration by closing the U.S.-Mexico border, Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of addressing migration through cooperation rather than confrontation. Sheinbaum, who will assume office on October 1, highlighted the need for a collaborative approach between Mexico and the United States to tackle the root causes of migration, such as poverty, violence, and lack of opportunities in migrants' home countries. She suggested that instead of unilateral actions like border closures, both nations should work together on development programs, job creation, and improving living conditions in Central America and other regions. Sheinbaum's comments reflect a broader Mexican policy shift towards seeking humane and sustainable solutions to migration, rather than resorting to aggressive border control measures.
