NJ-28 Primary Election Results: Tucker, Onyema Win Democrat Race, AP Says (UPDATED)

The district includes the municipalities of Hillside, Irvington, Maplewood, Newark and South Orange.

The primary election results for New Jersey's 28th Legislative District, as reported by Patch, show that in the Democratic primary for Senate, incumbent Renee Burgess is leading with 83.5% of the vote against challenger Frank McGehee. For the Assembly seats, incumbents Cleopatra Tucker and Garnet Hall are leading with 47.6% and 42.7% respectively, while challengers Joy Freeman and Willie S. Tolliver trail with 26.9% and 25.5%. The Republican primary for Senate sees Adam Elias leading with 57.1% against Eli E. Eytan's 42.9%, and for the Assembly, Michael Venezia and Joy B. Freeman are leading with 50% and 46.2% respectively, against Robert Genovese's 43.8%. These results are based on early voting data and may change as more votes are counted.
