The U.S. Department of Justice has charged seven Chinese nationals, including hackers and government officials, with orchestrating a cyberespionage campaign targeting U.S. officials, journalists, and companies. The campaign, which began in 2010, involved hacking into email accounts and computer systems to steal trade secrets, intellectual property, and sensitive information.
