US officials are still trying to help major telecom providers evict Chinese government-backed hackers from their networks and don't have a timeline for when that will be done, officials said Tuesday.

U.S. officials are actively engaged in efforts to remove Chinese hackers from major U.S. telecommunications networks, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. These hackers, believed to be affiliated with China's People's Liberation Army, have infiltrated systems that manage internet traffic, potentially compromising national security by accessing sensitive communications. The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are leading the operation, which involves not only the eviction of these hackers but also the repair of vulnerabilities exploited in these networks. The intrusion was initially detected by a private cybersecurity firm, and despite ongoing efforts, the hackers have managed to maintain their presence, highlighting the sophisticated nature of the cyber espionage and the challenges in completely securing these critical infrastructures.
