  Earlier this year, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) opened an investigation into an outbreak of Escherichia coli, better known as E. coli — and did not reveal to the public which companies were responsible for the rash of foodborne illness that killed one and sickened nearly 90 people. As NBC News reports,

The outbreak, which occurred at a JBS USA beef processing facility in Colorado, resulted in six hospitalizations and one death. The report criticizes the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for failing to inform the public about the outbreak and for not recalling the contaminated meat, despite knowing about the issue. The committee's findings suggest that the FSIS prioritized the interests of the meat industry over public health, highlighting a significant lapse in food safety protocols and transparency.
