The Welsh Government has declined to release a letter sent to the UK Government regarding the potential negative impacts of changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Universal Credit. This decision was made despite a Freedom of Information request, with the Welsh Government citing that the letter contains policy advice and is part of ongoing discussions. The letter reportedly warns that the proposed changes could lead to increased poverty and hardship for disabled people in Wales. The refusal to disclose the letter has sparked criticism from opposition parties, who argue that transparency is crucial, especially given the significant implications for vulnerable groups. The Welsh Government has, however, expressed its commitment to protecting the rights of disabled people and has promised to continue engaging with the UK Government on these issues.
