  • The Saskatchewan government has announced over $920 million in additional funding on Monday to 'address cost pressures and respond to emerging issues.'

The Saskatchewan government has announced the issuance of special warrants to authorize nearly $1 billion in new spending for the fiscal year 2023-24. This decision comes in response to unexpected costs and revenue shortfalls, including $350 million for crop insurance due to drought conditions, $225 million for wildfire management, and $15 million for emergency flood response. Additionally, $200 million is allocated for the Saskatchewan Health Authority to cover increased costs in medical imaging, lab services, and other health services. The government also plans to spend $100 million on municipal revenue sharing and $75 million to address inflation-driven increases in school operating costs. This spending is facilitated through special warrants, which allow the government to bypass the usual legislative approval process for urgent expenditures.
