This legislation, spearheaded by Independent MP Geoff Brock, aims to reduce the influence of big money in politics. The ban extends to donations from companies with significant stakes in these industries, even if they are not directly involved in the prohibited sectors. The bill also includes provisions for increased public funding for political parties to offset the loss of private donations. While the opposition criticized the bill for potentially stifling free speech and impacting small businesses, supporters argue it will lead to a more transparent and fair political system. The bill now awaits the Governor's assent to become law.
