A coalition of 70 campaign groups has sent a hard hitting letter to Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes accusing the Government of a u-turn.

The Scottish National Party (SNP) government has been criticized for not including a Carer's Allowance Supplement in the upcoming Scottish Budget, a decision described as a "slap in the face" to unpaid carers. This supplement, which provides an additional £270.50 twice a year to those on Carer's Allowance, was notably absent from the budget plans despite previous commitments to support carers. The move has drawn ire from opposition parties like the Scottish Conservatives, who argue that this omission neglects the vital role of carers, especially amidst rising living costs. The Scottish Government, however, insists that they are still committed to supporting carers, pointing out that they have increased the Carer's Allowance Supplement by 10.1% in April 2023 and are investing significantly in social security benefits. Despite these assurances, the lack of new funding in the budget has led to accusations of broken promises and inadequate support for carers.
