Nebraska auditor alleges more fraud by contracted DHHS caregivers
- Auditor Mike Foley's report on Wednesday follows a similar report his office issued in February. He previously said the DHHS likely mishandled tens of millions of dollars during the 2023
Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley has uncovered additional instances of fraud involving caregivers contracted by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The audit revealed that some caregivers were billing for services not rendered, including times when they were out of state or engaged in other activities. The audit also highlighted issues with oversight and documentation, with some caregivers failing to provide adequate proof of services or falsifying records. Foley emphasized the need for stricter controls and better monitoring to prevent such fraudulent activities, which exploit vulnerable populations and misuse taxpayer funds. The DHHS has acknowledged the findings and is taking steps to address the systemic issues identified in the audit.
