The Missoula Police Department is set to receive 75 new Tasers as part of a $100,000 purchase approved by the Missoula City Council. This decision comes after a year-long evaluation of various less-lethal options, aiming to enhance officer safety and effectiveness in managing confrontations. The new Tasers, which will replace older models, are part of a broader initiative to equip officers with tools that reduce the need for lethal force. The funding for these Tasers was secured through a grant from the Montana Board of Crime Control, with the city covering the remaining costs. The introduction of these devices is also accompanied by updated training protocols to ensure proper usage and accountability.
