Party co-leaders Holly Cairns and Cian O'Callaghan met with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien to push for an extension of the eviction moratorium. They emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent a surge in homelessness, criticizing the government's current housing policies as inadequate. The Social Democrats are advocating for a comprehensive plan that includes not only extending the eviction ban but also implementing long-term solutions to the housing shortage. They expressed frustration over the government's reluctance to engage in meaningful dialogue on this critical issue, highlighting the urgency due to the impending deadline and the potential human cost of inaction.
