Department of Education contract cuts spur 'chaos and confusion'

This abrupt change has caused chaos and confusion among borrowers, particularly those applying for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and income-driven repayment plans. The contract, valued at $280 million, was ended due to Accenture's failure to meet performance expectations, resulting in a backlog of applications and delays in processing. Borrowers have reported difficulties in getting updates on their applications, with some experiencing long wait times on customer service lines and others receiving conflicting information. The Education Department has acknowledged the issues and is working to transition the work to other contractors, but in the meantime, the situation has left many borrowers in limbo, unsure of when or if their loan forgiveness will be processed.
