Trump emphasized that while the Posse Comitatus Act generally prohibits the use of the military for domestic law enforcement, he believes there are exceptions that would allow for military involvement in immigration enforcement. He suggested that the National Guard could be deployed, particularly in states with significant illegal immigration issues, and mentioned that he would not hesitate to use the military if necessary, despite potential legal challenges. This approach reflects Trump's broader immigration policy, which includes reinstating and expanding previous measures like the travel ban from certain Muslim-majority countries and potentially revisiting family separation policies at the border.
