Germany's government has banned the largest "Reich citizen" group. The extremist far-right organization calls itself the "Kingdom of Germany" and seeks to undermine the country's democratic order.
Germany has banned the largest "Reich Citizen" group, known as the "United German Peoples and Nations," and arrested four of its leaders, as announced by the German Interior Ministry on September 27, 2023. This group, which claims that the German Reich, as it existed before World War II, still exists and that the current German state is illegitimate, has been classified as extremist and a threat to democracy. The ban and arrests are part of a broader effort to combat the growing influence of such groups, which are estimated to have around 21,000 members across the country. The German authorities have conducted searches in multiple states, seizing assets and materials linked to the group, in an attempt to dismantle its operations and prevent further radicalization.
