Figures uncovered by MailOnline have revealed Britain's cash-strapped military has spent more than £2million on vehicles to shuttle troops and civil servants around.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has come under fire for spending £12.6 million on taxis and chauffeurs over the past three years, a period marked by significant budget cuts affecting military personnel. This expenditure, which includes £11.1 million on taxi services and £1.5 million on private chauffeurs, has been criticized by MPs and military charities as wasteful, especially given the concurrent reduction in frontline capabilities and support for service members. The MoD's spending on luxury travel has been highlighted as particularly insensitive at a time when military personnel face financial hardships, with some even resorting to food banks. Critics argue that these funds could have been better allocated to support the welfare of service members or to bolster military readiness. The MoD has defended its spending by stating that much of the taxi use was for operational purposes, but this has done little to quell the backlash over perceived extravagance during a time of austerity.
