Estonia and Lithuania have decided to extend their sanctions against Georgian authorities due to the controversial "foreign agents" law passed by Georgia's parliament. This law, which requires organizations receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as foreign agents, has been criticized for potentially stifling civil society and media freedom, drawing comparisons to similar Russian legislation. The sanctions include travel bans for Georgian officials involved in the law's passage. Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and Lithuania's Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis have both condemned the law, with Tsahkna expressing regret over Georgia's shift away from European values and Landsbergis highlighting the law's detrimental impact on Georgia's EU integration path. These measures reflect the broader international concern over the direction of Georgia's political landscape.
