During the visit, the Chairman of UBA Group, Tony Elumelu, in the presence of Tinubu and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, signed the agreement indicative of support by the French Government for the development of UBA's full banking operations in France.
The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has announced plans to commence full banking operations in France, marking its entry into the European market. This strategic move aims to enhance UBA's service offerings to its African clientele in Europe, particularly those from Francophone countries. The bank, which already operates in 20 African countries and globally in places like the UK, USA, and UAE, sees this expansion as a way to facilitate trade and investment between Africa and Europe. UBA's Group Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba, highlighted that this initiative will not only provide a platform for Africans in France but also support French businesses looking to expand into Africa. The bank has received preliminary approval from French authorities and is in the process of finalizing all necessary regulatory requirements to start operations.
