SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - February 16, 2009) - Micrel Inc., (NASDAQ: [ MCRL ]), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today introduced a new member to its high power density family of products, the MIC22700. The device is a high efficiency 7A integrated synchronous buck (step-down) regulator optimized for the highest efficiency. It achieves more than 95 percent efficiency, while still switching at 1MHz over a broad load range with only 1µH inductor and a 47µF output capacitor. It also features built-in sequencing, tracking and ramp control -- enabling all power-up sequencing and tracking protocols. The solution is ideal for high power density point-of-load conversion, servers and routers, DVD recorders, computing peripherals, base stations, FPGAs, DSP and low voltage ASIC power applications. The MIC22700 is currently available in volume quantities with pricing starting at $3.27 for 1K quantities. Samples can now be ordered on line on Micrel's web site at: [ http://www.micrel.com/ProductList.do ].

"Very high efficiency, combined with small footprint, offers terrific value in applications such as servers, Blu-ray players and base stations," stated John Lee, director of power products, Micrel. "The MIC22700 is extremely easy to use, switches at a high PWM frequency and saves significant BOM cost for the designer, while setting a new standard in performance."

The MIC22700 has an ultra-high speed control loop that keeps the output voltage within regulation even under extreme transient load swings that are commonly found in FPGAs and low voltage ASICs. The output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.7V to address all low voltage power needs, from a 3.3V or 5V power bus. A full range of sequencing and tracking options is available. The Enable/Delay pin, combined with the Power Good/POR pin allows multiple outputs to be sequenced as desired during turn-on and turn-off. The RC (Ramp Control™) pin allows the device to be connected to another product in the MIC22xxx and/or the MIC68xxx family, thereby allowing the designer to maintain the output voltages within a certain deltaV on start up. The MIC22700 has thermal shutdown and current limit protection, is available in a 24-pin 4mm x 4mm MLF®, and offers a junction operating range from -40degC to +125degC.
